Oprah's favorite thing

As my friends and I watched the Steelers come from behind to defeat the Ravens tonight, we were elated not only with the outcome but with our dinner and dessert.  Ed and Brian made homemade pizzas, and they were freaking good.  Whole wheat crust with sauce, cheese, pepperoni and peppers.  It was very good.  For dessert I made brownies, but not just any brownies, Oprah's favorite brownies of 2010... Ghirardelli.  Well, at least that's what she said on her "Favorite Things" show.  She raved about how good they were, and how everyone should try them.  Little did she know, you can pick up a box of these Ghirardelli brownie mixes at Aldi's for $1.29.  So Brian and I picked up two boxes.

I made the double chocolate chip ones.  They were oooie gooie delicious.  They were so rich, just one was good enough for me.  Frankly any of the mixes are good.  The only downfall I can see to the brownies are how hard it is to cut them.  When you pull the knife through the brownies, they pull chocolate with them.  So by the time you are done cutting one row, you have a giant build-up of chocolate on your knife.  Luckily, fingers come in handy, and they happen to just end up in my mouth.  Hey, someone has to make sure they're not poison!
Regardless, I recommend everyone run to Aldi's and pick up a box of Ghirardelli brownie mix.  And, if you haven't been to Aldi's in general, what are you waiting for?  It's awesome!

  1. Baking Tip: Cut brownies with a cheap disposable plastic knife... they make clean cuts. Who knew?!
